In case you were wondering, here is my birth story. It's not the extended version since I know your time is valuable and soon a tiny human will be demanding your attention. Maybe you will find something we have in common, or maybe you are having a baby soon and this story can help ease some nerves. Ultimately I am happy you're here and enjoy this quick read.
My pregnancy journey and events leading up to giving birth to our daughter were pretty stress free. She was always growing right on track and never gave the doctors any reason to worry. In the weeks leading up to our daughter's due date, my physician recommended scheduling an induction just in case our little girl decided she didn't want to come out.
I took my physician's advice and scheduled an induction for the day before our daughter's due date. This was the only date they had available around her predicted due date; otherwise, we would have to wait about ten days after. I don't think I need to explain myself, if you're a mom who has had a baby growing inside you for 40 weeks you already understand. I was hopeful that she would come naturally before the scheduled induction. However, she did not so I was so happy we followed my doctor's advice.
We arrived at the hospital for our scheduled induction around 5 am. Once we were settled into our delivery room, the nurses began the induction process. After about 4 hours, the nurses administered more medication to help my labor progress. The first half of the day was pretty uneventful then once the doctors decided to start pitocin my contractions became very painful. I did decide to use the epidural and it made a world of difference for what felt like only a short time.
The nurses I had were absolutely amazing, each of them was determined to help my labor move along. After I received the epidural, my nurse would come into the room every 30 minutes and help me move into different positions. I was exhausted at this point, but looking back this was probably one of the the reasons I only "pushed" for 15 minutes and had no complications once our daughter was born. She was born at 9:16 am the day after I was induced. We spent the next 36 hours in the hospital and then were able to take her home.
My story is my story. It is unique to me. Each of us will have different experiences, but that doesn't mean we should keep them to ourselves. Your story could help another mom, maybe a new nervous mom, who has no idea what to expect. Your story could help ease her nerves knowing that if you can make it through your birth experience, then so can she.
This may be another mom blog, but you are not just another mom. You're story is important. Share it with others, or share it with me! Visit the EMAIL ME section to share your story with me.
